I am a firm believer of being in the right place at the right time.
Just over a year ago, I bumped into an old school friend (our MD James). We got talking and it turned out that we had a mutual passion for digital marketing – James had recently set up his own digital marketing agency and two years earlier I had completed my digital marketing diploma, having worked in traditional marketing for 12 years!
When we first crossed paths again, I was two years into motherhood with no plans of returning to the world of work anytime soon! At the time, I was sure I wouldn’t be able to juggle both motherhood and work, without putting 100% into both. How wrong I was! From our early discussions, it was clear that James was very keen on creating a company that supported the ability to develop your digital marketing career whilst also maintaining the ability to be a brilliant mum, in equal capacities. Flexible working for parents really is the way forward and James is a strong example of an employer who knows how to make this happen successfully!
Right there, at that moment in time, I truly was in the right place at the right time. The rest is history.
It has now been a year since I joined The Social Desk and I can honestly say I don’t know where this year has gone!
As Digital Marketing Manager, my role is to manage a series of client accounts, supporting on areas of digital marketing including consultancy, strategy, social media management, training, copywriting and website development. I can honestly say I have loved working on every single client account so far and have formed great relationships with our clients. The range of industries we work with means that no two days are the same and I feel honoured to become an extension of our clients businesses and put my passion for digital marketing into their businesses.
The past year has been a great success for me personally and professionally. I have really enjoyed getting back into the working world, with a forward thinking and supportive team. I have had the opportunity to work clients from a range of interesting companies and regular training has meant that I can continue to develop and progress in my role.
The Social Desk, as a whole, has gone from strength to strength this past year. Even during the looming coronavirus pandemic, we were lucky enough to be able to continue trading as normal. Despite sadly (and hopefully temporarily!) losing a small number of our lovely clients, we have also had success in bringing on new clients and we have been lucky enough not to have to furlough any of our team. I think that the hard work and passion that The Social Desk team has for all our clients has really helped to ensure continuity during this time and I am proud of us all as a team.
I am excited for what the next year (and beyond) will bring for me at The Social Desk. I think a virtual zoom celebration with the team will be in order to celebrate this one-year milestone since we can’t get together in the pub just yet!
